THE Democratic Progressive Party, DPP, has fired its deputy regional governor for the north, Afick Mbewe following speculations that he has formed a movement called the “Chilima Movement”, to boost support for the Vice President.
One of the senior members for the ruling party made the announcement yesterday in a meeting which was also attended by DPP campaign director Jappie Mhango.
Mbewe’s firing comes a few weeks after he disclosed his support for the candidature of Saulos Chilima as DPP’s torch bearer in the forthcoming elections.
Efforts to speak to DDP’s spokesperson Francis Kasaila proved futile as he could not answer his phone.
There have been disagreements in the DPP following a wake up opinion from the former first lady, Callista Mutharika, who recommended Chilima as the Party’s presidential candidate in 2019.
Last Saturday, President Peter Mutharika broke the silence when he told the Party’s supporters at Kamuzu International Airport that he will represent DPP in the 2019 presidential elections.
