Media Institute of Southern Africa, Misa, Malawi chapter has expressed its disappointment over the assault of one of its members during the opening of the 47th session today.
The victim, Douglas Banda, was assaulted by Democratic Progressive Party, DPP, supporters while on duty at the parliament.
In a statement released today and signed by the board’s chairperson, Teresa Ndanga, the media body has demanded for the arrest and prosecution of Banda’s assailants.
Misa has further asked DPP to publicly condemn the act of its supporters.
Banda, a Times Group photojournalist, was attacked while he filmed DPP supporter who were sent out of parliament for disturbing proceedings.
This has happened just a day after Malawian Journalists yesterday joined the rest of the world in Commemorating World Press Freedom Day.
