Two people have sustained seriously injuries in a road accident involving two vehicles on Sunday at Mfiti Trading Centre in Dowa.
Police have told The Express that a Tanzanian Taqwa bus, registration number T962, was coming from Tanzania heading to Lilongwe.
When the bus reached Mfiti Trading Center, the driver tried to overtake a two-tonner Mazda lorry registration number NS 5203 which was heading in the same direction, in the process, the bus hit the lorry.
“This resulted into both drivers losing control of their vehicles and the vehicles swayed to the extreme offside of the road forcing the lorry to hit a tree,” explained Mponela police spokesperson, Kondwani Kandiado.
Following the collision, a passenger of the Mazda identified as Petros Phiri, aged 26, and the 30-year-old driver, David Mega sustained serious injuries.
They are currently admitted at Madisi Mission Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
The Taqwa bus which was being driven by a Tanzanian national, identified only as Ramadan, got damaged but no passenger has been reported injured.
