TIME is running out for dog owners in Blantyre to have the pets vaccinated against rabies in an exercise which ends tomorrow.
The Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development is carrying out the three-week vaccination campaign targeting 70 percent of dogs in the city.

Other townships within the city have already been reached with the campaign in the past days.
According to experts, it takes from one week to more than a year from the day of being beaten by an infected dog before rabies symptoms appear, once they show up treatment becomes ineffective.
United Nations records indicate that close to 500 Malawians die of rabies every year.
Despite this being the case, most Malawians do not closely monitor their pets making it hard to fight against rabies.
