MEMBERS of the Democratic Progressive Party, DPP, endorsing Vice President Saulos Chilima as the party’s torch bearer next year have dismissed rumors that they met Chilima today.
This follows reports on social media that the 69 DPP MPs were meeting the vice president at his home in Lilongwe.
The rumors allege that the agenda of the meeting was to discuss means of appointing new party’s governing council since per its constitution; the term of current office bearers has expired.
One of the MPs, Bon Kalindo, told The Express that the rumors are not true and should be disregarded.
“That is a sign to tell you that things are not ok in the DPP camp… the support that is coming is just overwhelming.
“When there will be such instances you are going to hear from us, especially me as a mouth piece,” explained Kalindo.
He, however, said that Chilima will break the silence and speak of his candidacy soon.
Yesterday, about 50 DPP MPs publicly endorsed President Peter Mutharika as the party’s torch bearer in 2019 at a press conference conducted in Lilongwe. .
