MZUNI Football Club has until the end of June this year to drop all non-student players or risk losing sponsorship from the university management.
Confirming the development to The Express, General Secretary for the club, Donnex Chilongo says the management wrote them about the decision but efforts to plead with them proved pointless.
On Wednesday, a press conference to announce the futureof sponsorship was cancelled by the University management due to the absence of some key officials.
The GS bemoaned that leaving non-student players will affect the team’s performance since most of the players are not students.
Among the 24 players that Mzuni FC has, only four are students.
The team has a shortfall of six players to make the required 30-player squad as per recommended by the Super League of Malawi.
Chilongo admitted that as a team, they have no other source of revenue to support their budget apart from the University.
