The 30th Malawi International Trade Fair, MITF, is starting today at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre.
President Peter Mutharika is expected to officially open the event.
Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism, Honorable Henry Mussa told The Express that government has embarked on reforms like the National Industrial Policy and that National Trade Policy to enhance a conducive environment for business operators in the country.
While admitting that excessive blackouts are affecting the industrial sector in Malawi, the minister explained that government is working on the energy mix program using gas, thermo and hydro power to rectify the problem.
Over 222 pavilions, 12 of whom are from foreign countries like India, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique will attend this year’s trade fair.
Themed “Industrialisation: Basis for Trade Investment”, this year’s trade fair will run from 24th May to 3rd June 2018.
