CHIKWAWA magistrate court has convicted two men, Libikesi Gemu and Innocent Richman for defiling two girls aged 13 and 14 years respectively.

Police spokesperson in Chikwawa, Foster Benjamin, told The Express that the court heard on Monday that Gemu, 23, sexually attacked his 13-year-old sister-in-law in a vegetable garden at Mphepo village on May 18 this year.

The victim had gone to fetch for vegetables while the convict was tending the garden.

Gemu took advantage of the situation, gagged the girl and then defiled her.

The girl disclosed the matter the following day which led to the arrest of the suspected person.

During a court session Gemu pleaded guilty but blamed the devil to have influenced him to commit the crime.

On the same Monday, the court heard that the other defiler, Richmand, defiled a 14-year-old primary school girl in Illovo cane field on March 15 at Sekeni village.

Richman convinced the victim to leave her friend’s grandmother home where she was visiting for some days by telling her that she was going to be ill-treated if she stays long at the place.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Helix Kamkweche, told the court that the convict “assumed the responsibility of getting her out of trouble by escorting her back to her home village.”

The following day, on their way, he used delaying tactics that provided him with a chance to defile the girl.

First Grade Magistrate, Gladstone Chirundu, sentenced Richman to 12 years imprisonment while Gemu has been slapped with 10 years both with hard labour.

Both convicts come from the same district of Chikwawa.

This comes a few days after the same court convicted another man on Thursday last week for defiling a five-year-girl.
