THE GOVERNING Democratic Progressive Party, DPP, is to conduct its highly anticipated elective convention in June.
A statement released today and signed by the party’s Secretary General Grezeldar Jeffrey didn’t mention the date and venue of the convention.
This is happening amidst divisions on who should lead the party in the forthcoming tripartite elections.
Some youthful members of the DPP continue making demands thatVice President, Saulos Chilima, 45, should be chosen as its presidential candidate while a cross section of senior members has re-endorsed President Peter Mutharika.
It is yet to be known whether Chilima will challenge President Mutharika, 79.
The youthful Chilima is coming under mounting pressure to reveal his plan before Malawians elect new office bearers in next year’s polls.
