DOWA District Commissioner, DC, Alex Mdooko, has advised communities living along the Dowa Boma-Chezi road to provide tip offs to police so as to protect construction materials from theft.

Mdooko told community members during an interface on Monday that safety of the construction materials should not be pushed on the council only but rather every person should assume the responsibility since the road belongs to every citizen.

The DC has condemned a tendency by some irresponsible citizens who travel from towns and connive with some community members to steal fuel, cement and other materials which derail projects.

He further urged different stakeholders to continue conducting sensitization meetings with the communities.

Recently, Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango, visited the council to appreciate the progress of the road project after engaging a new company to complete a 20 kilometre road from Dowa Doma -Chezi on the M5.

Mhango urged the contractor to complete the road within the budget timeline saying the road is providing a basis for development in the district.

China Civil Engineering Company is constructing the road to the tune of MK3.4 Billion and is expected to last for18 months.
