WIDE spread rumours that the Malawi veteran politician, John Tembo, has died are emerging to be false and are receiving strong criticism from different sectors.
Social media on Tuesday evening was awash with reports that the 85-year-old veteran politician died after a battling with diabetes for a long time.
In response, however, his son, John Tembo junior has strongly trashed the report by calling it ‘total rubbish’.
“He is in good health and we have just finished watching the World Cup game between Russia and Egypt,” said the younger Tembo on the same evening.
John Tembo was the second Malawi Finance Minister after the country’s independence succeeding Henry Philips and he was a key figure in the Kamuzu Banda regime for 30 years.
He has also been Malawi Congress Party president until 2013 when the current MCP president, Lazarus Chakwera took over.
