MEMBER of Parliament for Dowa North East, Sam Kawale, of Malawi Congress Party has proposed that the state broadcaster, Malawi Broadcast Corporation, MBC, must only get 1 Malawi Kwacha from National Budget for its 2019 operations.

The motion which is under Standing Order 74 has been presented  today during ongoing parliamentary deliberations in August House.

“That vote 275 be reduced by one billion, eight hundred and seventy nine million, seven hundred and sixty two thousand four hundred and ninety nine kwacha, and be given one kwacha, in respect of the allocation for the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation,” reads the older.

The house, however, will discuss the matter at a later stage.

This comes against the background that opposition political parties have been complaining that MBC favors the governing Democratic Progressive Party in its reporting.

If the motion gets the parliamentarians approval, it will not be the first time for MBC to get the amount of money as the the same also happened in 2008 due to the same reason.
