MALAWI will from this Thursday hold a two-day national youth conference focusing on programmes that are aiming at achieving HIV and AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, SRHR.
It has been organised by the National Youth Council of Malawi in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Health and Population’s Directorate of Reproductive Health and the National Aids Commission.
This year’s theme is ‘Reflect and Act for improved Youth Participation and Leadership.’
To be held in the capital, Lilongwe, the conference seeks to showcase outstanding work of young people implementing HIV and AIDS and SRHR interventions in the country.
The 2018 conference will award extraordinary adolescents and youth as individuals and as groups for their outstanding work as NYCOM has partnered with SRHR Africa Trust, a development which will take the aim of the conference higher.
Christened ‘Adolescent and Youth Activism and Innovation Awards in SRHR,’ the awards combined with capacity building sessions and rich content to be shared within the two days are expected to contribute towards improved and sustained youth participation and leadership in the field of youth development.
About 200 delegates comprising 60 percent of young people are expected to attend the conference.
It comes in at a time when youth in Malawi are facing challenges which affect their health outcomes particularly related to HIV and AIDS and SRHR.
