FORMER minister of Agriculture, George Chaponda, who was southern region vice president for the governing Democratic Progressive Party, DPP, has withdrawn from seeking re-election at the DPP convention currently underway in Blantyre.
This was announced by the indaba’s chairperson, Nicolas Dausi in the afternoon of Monday.
There was cheering from delegates when the announcement was being made.
As it stands, there are three contestants for the position; Kondwani Nankhumwa, Joseph Mwanamveka and Henry Mussa.
Until the announcement, Chaponda had shown interest in competing for the position.
